Question: We are currently living in a rental which limits what I can plant in the ground, but someday soon hope to have a house (and more importantly a GARDEN) of my own. What plants do you all wish you had started small in pots so you could plant them later?
Trying to help myself out here as I may have to keep things in pots for a couple years.
Start stuff from seed! There are more things available in seed than you can buy anywhere. You can get the hard to get stuff and raise it. When you get your place, they’ll be ready! You have the time. Ok, that is vy easy. If you are in the USA, get some 2-3″ pots of any echinopsis and mammilaria species fr the big box stores. They are popular in collection and bloom and clump at a young age. You can enjoy the plant and at the same time can be the starter plants for ur future garden. It is best to stay away fr the fast growing types. New installation in my new sun garden. You also have to consider that cactus and succulents have minimum temperature to survive. Most tender succs are hardy ‘to 25-30F. U can try to google the USDA Climate Zone where u may consider to live.

Yeah, I’m in Southern California so I’m not worried about cold hardy. But yes, this is a good thing to keep in mind. Thank you.
