Re: Yellow color at the base of cutting

not really. Only about 10% organic and the rest mineral. Not sure about bone and blood meal. Perlite is a substitute for pumice but will float when watered.

Re: Yellow color at the base of cutting

Didn’t see the loph...I mix 50% fox farm ocean forest with pumice and worm castings for trichs, and 70% pumice with akadama, zeolite, azomite and worm castings for lophs. Mine are outside so I quit adding organic soil.

Re: Нellow color at the base of cutting

Yellow is because it is in the earth and gets no sun....hence no chlorophyll. My guess about being skinny is, that they can only absorb so much water through that small root system, and it’s sending energy to the pups, as well. When they talk about being thin due to lack of light, it’s because they ...

Re: How often to water potted succulents when it’s hot out?

Plants in pots dry out quicker. I have cacti which I only water once weekly no matter how hot. Some succulents get watered more often, though never more than 2-3 times a week. Some can't take the intense full afternoon summer sun . Watch your plants and let them teach you. Judy, I agree. there are ...

Re: Good book for identifying succulents/cactus?

Succulents and cacti are simply too numerous to be covered responsibly in any one book. I would suggest you consider smaller subcategories, then research the available authoritative resource books on line. The randomness of what you might stumble upon in thrift stores and flea markets, etc., is a go...

Re: My golden barrel is turning pale green what does it need?

I have all cacti on the upper shelf in the gh where they get most of the sunlight/heat, water just 1x/3wks and occasionally mist. Soil mix is mostly grits/sand, and little soil just enough for the roots. I let pot sit on container filled halfway, bottom watering till i see the top dressing wet. So f...

Re: is it good idea to use crates for raised beds

I would not recommend. The wood will not hold up over time and then you will have to transplant everything. If you decide to use it though, I would use a dark weed cloth that will allow water to drain.

Re: What plants do you all wish you had started small in pots?

Start stuff from seed! There are more things available in seed than you can buy anywhere. You can get the hard to get stuff and raise it. When you get your place, they'll be ready! You have the time.

Gymnocalycium baldianum has flowers of different colors

Is it unusual for a Gymnocalycium baldianum to have flowers of different colors? The right one has been open longer, but its color has not changed. The left one opened today...
