Re: Let's talk about best pot for cactus

With adequate well drained soil mix, any material will work, even plastic. Stop the non-sense that the walls must "breathe". It´s the substrate aeration that´s important. If you use clay soil in a terra cotta pot your chance of rotting your cactus or succulent is pretty high. BTW , in 2000 , I work...

Re: Good book for identifying succulents/cactus?

ACU probably has at least a few of the more popular C&S books in their library. There's also a Fort Worth C&S Society. I realize that is 2 hours from you, but meetings are only once a month for most C&S chapters. We have people at our San Diego meeting who drive more than two hours to come to our me...

Re: Gabion baskets to raise a garden bed for succulents

For planters, two gabion baskets (wire cages) are used in two sizes - the larger outer one and the smaller inner one. You fill the space in between with largish rocks. The middle stays empty for now. That cage forms the walls of your planter which let the water run out and air get in. You put your p...

Gabion baskets to raise a garden bed for succulents

Has anyone used gabion baskets to raise a garden bed for succulents (mostly aloes, agaves and crassulas) off the ground? It rains a lots where I live so the bed will have to drain very quickly. I thought maybe using large rocks for the bottom layer then smaller ones mixed with soil for the middle. F...

Re: Air Pots for cacti

I was just intrigued by the info that it's so good for the roots! Very interesting. Might get small one and try tradescantia or spider plant in it and see how they like it. I wouldn't really recommend them for tradescantia either as they prefer to sit in moist soil. These pots are not really for a ...

Re: Air Pots for cacti

These are better for trees that are on irrigation watering system. The problem with using them for plants such as cacti and succulents is that it is really hard to wet the soil as it it comes out of the holes at the top before it soaks through the soil meaning that the roots never get enough water.

Re: How to remove glue from cacti from Home Depot?

I hate this so so much I don't understand why they feel the need to glue fake flowers on them when the real blooms are magnificent and sadly many people have no idea they are fake flowers same for the painted stuff they sell. I very nicely speak to the manager and express my concerns. If enough of ...

The cause of succulents dropping leaves?

How do you all differentiate between the cause of succulents dropping leaves? Or other issues. I’ve gotten pretty good at pest management, although I’m sure that can be a factor, but now my only work in progress is learning when to water. Some of my plants will drop lower leaves. Sometimes the leave...

Re: Succulent?

So I planted them around the outside edges and put in the center, funnily enough, anacampeseros. The one in the center came from a different store and was labeled, the outside ones were not. The center one is super compact and actually needs to be separated. I wasn't brave enough to do it as it will...

Succulent?

Can anyone identify this for me? I am trying to repot it and it is very droopy. Not sure if it needs some support or if it's supposed to droop over the sides of the pot. Thanks!
